As the years tick by, I am fascinated by how many things have changed in my lifetime. Some are technical innovations, for better or worth, while others are part of our cultural evolution.

I'm writing some of these down for perspective. When I was young, I would discuss with my grandfather (born in 1892) about what changed in his life, which was remarkable. But as much as things changed, he said people had pretty much the same aspirations, strengths, and weaknesses. When change happens, you often don't notice it at the time. You wonder how people got along without things we now take for granted, but somehow they get along.

Here are some of my observations. Younger viewers may shrug, older ones may shake their heads. But there's not much we can do about it, change is inevitable. Let's hope it is mostly for the good. I'm trying not to slip into "old fartdom", where everything was better in the old days.

I'm not nostalgic for the "good old days". It's all about tradeoffs and unforeseen effects. You may not agree with all my observations. That's ok, we all filter reality through our own experience.
